Urology

Urology is the branch of medicine dealing with the diseases related to the Kidney, Urinary Bladder, Prostate gland, Testis and Penis. In addition, it deals with the conditions like Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), Male sexual dysfunction, Renal stones, Renal/Uretric obstructions and male infertility.

It also deals with the tumours of the Kidney, Ureter, Bladder, Prostate, Testis and Penis. Congenital anomalies of the Genitourinary tract like pelvic ureteric junction obstruction, vesicoureteral reflux, posterior urethral valves etc., are taken care of. Various voiding dysfunction is also treated under this speciality. Urology also deals with Kidney transplantation.

Endourology:

Endourology is the branch of urology that deals with minimally invasive surgical procedures. Endourology is performed using small endoscopes and instruments instead of open surgery.

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (Hot EP) is a modern alternative to the standard Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)

RIRS for Renal Stones:

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a procedure for doing surgery within the kidney using a viewing tube called a fiberoptic endoscope with Holmium Laser and Mini &Ultramini-(Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy also referred to as Mini-Perc) procedures.

Urological Oncology:

Urologic oncology concerns the surgical treatment of malignant genitourinary diseases such as prostate cancer, adrenal glands, bladder, kidneys, ureters, testicles, and penis.

Depending on the type of tumour, advanced genitourinary cancer is treated by a urologist or an oncologist.

Paediatric Urology:

Paediatric urology concerns urologic disorders in children. Such conditions include cryptorchism (undescended testes) and congenital abnormalities of the genitourinary tract. Enuresis, underdeveloped genitalia (delayed growth or puberty, often an endocrinological problem), and vesicoureteral reflux. It also deals with paediatric stone diseases, which are now managed endoscopically.
